Personally I always found D3's automap to be waaaayyyy more readable than that of D1/2. ...I seem to be a bit in the minority, but I enjoyed D3's more varied objective-based gameplay more than...I will agree that D3's scaling never felt quite right, since I think in terms of raw speed the Pyro-GL...and Phoenix are at least faster than D2's Pyro-GX.
